Rooted & Free Schoolhouse is a homeschool resource for those families who love the freedom of homeschooling their children but who are seeking academic learning in a social setting. Our school has the luxuries of a private school with affordable tuition and a small student-to-teacher ratio allowing the opportunity for each child to thrive based on his/her own unique personality and skill level.
Transitional Kindergarten
Transitional Kindergarten is the foundation of our model and where children will learn the skills for success in our later programs. It is a place for our four to six-year-old children to play + explore + be creative but also to practice letter + number recognition, build well-developed fine motor skills, and practice social + emotional skills. Children begin each day with invitations to learn + be creative, a read-aloud, and friendly conversation. Their days are filled with play, arts + crafts, reading, and nature. It is in our transitional kindergarten program where children begin to establish a lifelong love of learning.
Primary
Our Primary program expands upon the foundational skills started in transitional kindergarten with a focus on phonics + spelling, writing, reading, and math. Creativity, play, and exploration are still at the core of our primary model, but students begin to work in screen-free small groups to build a deeper understanding of those core subjects needed to be successful. Our students start each morning with a creative project as our teachers read aloud. Children then move on to reading, writing, and math stations followed by outdoor play + exploration, dramatic + sensory play, and arts + crafts. Our primary program provides opportunities for curiosity and offers challenges for their developing brains.
Elementary + Middle
Elementary is a place for children to discover their strengths + passions and take the initial steps to pursue their interests. Beginning in Elementary and continuing into middle and high school, students participate in a combination of online + face-to-face learning to achieve true mastery in math, reading, writing, and grammar. Within these programs, families have the choice between faith-based or non-religious curriculums. Students participate in project-based learning that expands upon core subjects and encompasses a wide range of other subjects such as history, science, STEAM, fine arts, and more. As an enrichment to our more traditional program, students participate in weekly art, nature walks + journaling, city exploration, and more with new enrichment opportunities added all the time!
